Maalaea Small Boat Harbor Improvements
In Hawaii the ocean is the center for recreation and commerce. Our harbors form the gateways to the life we enjoy. The popular Maalaea Small Boat Harbor, located in Maalaea on the south end of Maui, is at the island’s heart and soul.
Through long use and erosion the harbor facilities were reduced to a state of disrepair. Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) asked Hawaiian Dredging to curtail the erosion and rebuild the harbor for future generations. In response, Hawaiian Dredging overhauled the entire harbor.
Our crews erected a new 2-story ferry building. The ground floor houses the inter-island ferry terminal and doubles as a town meeting hall. The second floor the new home for the State DLNR Harbors Division office. The improvements also mean safer conditions for boat owners and harbor users. Families are enjoying a new comfort station, upgraded water, sewer and electrical utilities, a fire line system, vacuum pumps with waste water treatment system, a new aluminum pier, and improved parking and walkways. Hawaiian Dredging is glad to have a hand in building our community.
