Hawaiian Dredging performed as a Design-Build General Contractor for this innovative and state-of-the-art parking structure. The six-story, 410-stall controlled access structure was the first phase of a comprehensive development to support the city’s special vehicles requirements including emergency, police & fire, and various Department of Transportation divisions. The project was one in which Hawaiian Dredging demonstrated its capability as a General Contractor during simultaneous design and construction phases.
Project goals called for aesthetically pleasing exterior facades and hard/landscaping much of which was in the planning as the core structure’s cast-in-place concrete walls and floors were being built. The goal to render an all-concrete structure meeting the aesthetic standards for the State Capitol’s Special Design district was achieved through the extensive use of glass paneling and louvered facades. Hawaiian Dredging fabricated a striking and impressive “Hawaiian” motif for the vertical concrete walls enclosing the stairwell and elevator shaft, a solid example of the design-build capability the company brings to all of its projects. The building received a LEED Gold rating for which Hawaiian Dredging provided all of the documentation but what was most important to the company was the rating from the City’s projects manager of “outstanding!”
